Why I am Reformed and a Baptist.

Infant Baptism. Do we do it or not?I believe that Gods Word says no.Coming from an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist background made accepting Reformed Theology very hard for me.After much prayer Bible study and reading of many different viewpoints I was convinced that God is the one who does the saving. However it did not work for infant baptism. The more I read the more I was confused. It seemed that there were a bunch of ways to get to infant baptism. The closer I looked at them individually the more I was convinced of believer baptism. It seems that the more I looked for it the less I found it.
A lot of it depends on whether we are in the New covenant or the renewed covenant. We need to see that Christ is the new Abraham and all those who are His seed are to be baptized.A verse that was recently used as one reason for the baptism of infants was Matt 19:14. Here again if we look closer Jesus said to let the children come. infants cannot come.We also do not know if these were believing parents for we see that many came to Him for healing or earthly benefits. If people were having there infants baptized would Jesus need to correct the disciples ?Then He blessed them(not baptized).
Believer baptism is to be a sign of heart circumcision.Just as one is to examine oneself to see if they can take the Lords Supper but can be denied access if under church discipline then so it is with baptism.
If we try to force the unity of the Word then we end up with infant communion, theonomy and failure to follow the regulative principle. To be continued...

Well here goes time for a post. There are so many topics that I would like to write about that it is hard to decide which one...I will start small I guess and explain the meaning of life.
It is : the quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being from a dead body.;the period from birth until death.;the sequence of physical and mental experiences that make up the existence of an individual.etc.Okay, on to the next topic. What you say? That is not what you were looking for .You wanted something more.Well that is a whole different story.I will have to get back to you on that one....

For those of you who came here because you thought this was a Star Trek blog sorry it is no such thing.I do like and have watched all of the movies and tv series.I picked the name from the series. Data was my favorite character from T.N.G., Mr Spock is my favorite of all time. The original was the best-the interplay between the crew was top notch. Anyway back to the point. I chose this name because it was the first thing to come to mind. I originally set up this blog just to be able to comment on other peoples blogs. After a while I thought that it was an ok choice- though I probably would have picked Spock if I had really thought about it. ( too late now!) Data, for those who are not fans, was an android who did not have emotions and who wanted to be human. (it reminds me of pinnochio(sp?)).He also had a 'brother' whose name was Lore who had emotions and was pretty much his doppelganger(evil twin). It sort of fits since I tend to be logical, analytical and unemotional at times.( and I do have an evil twin that sufaces a lot more than I would like). For a long time I prided myself on being able to make coldminded decisions. I of course now realize that to be emotional is to be human after all.
But at times it seemed as a youth that emotions just made life more difficult.
Spock who is my favorite chacter of all the Star Trek universe was half human and half Vulcan.(a race of beings who suppressed all emotions and chose the path of logic.) It was interesting to watch him as he at times struggled with his human side and fought to keep his emotions under control. These characters remind me of me.( to be continued....)
